Dover-Sherborn Middle School Assistant Headmaster
Dover-Sherborn Middle School, serving students in grades 6-8 from the Towns of Dover and Sherborn, welcomes applications for the position of Assistant Headmaster.  The population of this high-performing school is approximately 540 students.  The Dover-Sherborn Middle School enjoys tremendous community support and is proud of its highly dedicated and skilled staff. 

Primary duties include master scheduling, report cards, discipline, teacher supervision and evaluation, and other duties as assigned by the Headmaster. DESE license as a principal/assistant principal is required. Salary commensurate with experience.  Starting date:  July 1, 2010

Literacy Specialist and Reading Teacher  

Instruction:

  1. Work directly with students in small groups as an intervention.
  2. Use assessment data to plan instruction
  3. Team with teachers to deliver literacy instruction in the classroom through small and large group instruction.

Assessment:

  1. Review assessment data for all grades with faculty and with the Curriculum Coordinator. Use data findings to develop professional development for individual teachers and for the whole staff as well as to modify ELA curriculum as indicated by data.
  2. Coordinate school-wide ELA assessment administration; formalize standards and analysis of DRA and DIBELS.

Leadership:

  1. Support classroom teaching by coaching teachers and aides in balanced literacy approaches.
  2. Coach teachers in differentiating instruction in their classrooms.
  3. Train Teacher’s Aides in Balanced Literacy.
  4. Lead the ELA vertical curriculum committee.
  5. Stay abreast of current research and publications in ELA.  
  6. Maintain updated involvement with the MA DOE as related to ELA initiatives and frameworks.
  7. Participate in a school based Student Instructional Support initiative.

Preferred Skills:

  1. Reading Recovery training
  2. Balanced Literacy expertise
  3. Guided Reading expertise
  4. Command of six-traits writing instruction
  5. Writer’s Workshop Instruction through using a Lucy Calkins approaches
